In order to adopt, you must:

• be 18 years old or more
• not have health problems that interfere or limit your ability to care for a child
• be of good moral character
• provide adequate housing (you can rent or own)
• provide sleeping arrangements required by the State of California (explained at orientation)
• meet specific safety and health requirements
• have family members and other people who come into regular contact with the child undergo criminal record checks
• provide personal references
• cover your own housing, food, and personal needs
