"The search may take two weeks, two months, or two years, but when you blend a child into an adoptive family, it is a blending for life. Every child who needs or wants an adoptive family deserves society's concerted effort to find one for them."
Wayne Luk, Alameda County Social Worker
Attending an orientation session is the next in the public adoption process, and going to an orientation is mandatory for all prospective adoptive parents. At the orientation, you will learn more about getting your foster care license. (*Every parent who adopts via public adoption must have a foster care license before they can adopt.) Orientations usually last 2 – 3 hours and are held throughout the year, in the evenings or on Saturdays.
Orientation schedules and contact phone numbers are posted for the following California counties:
Alameda County
Contra Costa County
Kern County
Mariposa County
San Mateo County
Yolo County
*** Remember, you must attend an orientation session in the county where you live. If you live in another California county, the best way to find an orientation schedule is to use your phone book or the Internet to look up your county’s Social Services (or Child Welfare) Department.
