In order to become a foster parent, you must:

  • be 21 years or older
  • not have health problems that interfere or limit your ability to care for a child
  • be of good moral character
  • provide sleeping accommodations required by the State of California (will be explained in detail at orientation)
  • meet specific safety and health requirements
  • have family members and others who’ll come into regular contact with the child undergo a criminal background check
  • provide personal references
  • cover your own housing, food, and personal needs
